Android system – a handful of important tips and tricks

The Google Android operating system, although seemingly simple and obvious, hides a few interesting facts. Here are a handful of tips and tricks to make your work even faster and more carefree.

1. delete unused apps

Most Android phones and tablets have a certain amount of apps already installed. While most of them are undoubtedly important and necessary, there are many programs among them that we will never use.

If we care about the place in the phone and we want the Android system to work smoothly, it is worth to discern the installed software. Many mobile network operators sell mobile devices with their own applications. To remove some of them, press the icon and then go to the detailed application menu. There we will be able to permanently delete them.

Note – some applications cannot be uninstalled. In such a situation, we can use the “disable” option, which will hide them in the interface of e.g. the phone and thus free up needed system resources.

Manage applications from the web

Few people know that Android, as opposed to iOS, allows you to manage installed applications via a computer and a website. To be able to do this, you need to run the Google Play store website in a web browser.

It will allow us not only to remotely install any application or game on the device, but also uninstall the unnecessary ones. All you need to do is to log in to the user account specified on the mobile device. Interestingly, if you have multiple Android devices on your account, the site will allow us to select them. This is a great convenience if you do not want to reach for the phone.

3. remember about widgets

Android users have the ability to add so called “widgets”. widgets to the home screen. These are graphical information carriers that combine simple and complex functions of a given application.

Android widgets can be placed on our phone screens. Depending on the model we use, widgets may look different. Mostly, however, it is quite simple.

All we have to do is simply press and hold the home screen, and then select the overlay of interest. New phones have a veritable plethora of widgets, of which we will undoubtedly find those that not only simplify the work on the phone, but also speed up its operation.

Install an antivirus program

The Android system is much more open than its direct competitor Apple. The fact that it resembles more desktop computer systems makes it more vulnerable to malware attacks. While Google has many strong security features built in, it’s still a good idea to install an external antivirus program from a reputable brand.

Some of the most popular security programs include Bitdefender, Kaspersky Security Cloud, McAfee AntiVirus or the famous Norton 360 Deluxe. Most of the mentioned systems, are also available on desktop computers.

Enable the “find my device” function

Having your phone lost or stolen is not a rare thing. Fortunately, Android allows you to locate your device.

Depending on what kind of phone you have, you should log into the appropriate application through your computer’s browser. Of course, to make this function possible, we have to prepare for such a circumstance early: run the appropriate option in the smartphone, and also permanently turn on the GPS in it.

After logging in we can try to track our phone. Its location (if enabled) should show up on the map. The accuracy of the tracking is very high – the margin of error is usually around 100-150 meters, which means that we should not have much problem tracking the thief.

6. remember about updates

At the very end we left some obviousness. It is worth remembering that Google is constantly working to improve and expand the capabilities of Android. Updating the software is not only associated with access to new features and capabilities of the device, but most importantly it affects its security.
