Cell phone and cell phone: what is the difference between the concepts, a comparison

Many subscribers have heard that there are such concepts as “cellular” and “mobile” phone, but do not understand the difference between them. Both devices are used to carry out communication between people who are at some distance from each other. A cellular smartphone is a subspecies of mobile devices that operate on the basis of radio communication. The range of either device depends on a base station or fixed base.

What is a cellular phone

A device that is designed to work in the area of telecom network activity is called a cellular phone. Such an electronic device uses both a transceiver of a certain radio band and traditional telephone switching to make telephone communication.

This type of gadget works only within the coverage area of the native or partner telecom network. Active in the area where the base station installed by a particular telecom operator (MTS, Megafon, Beeline) is located. The base transceiver is installed on towers or rooftops of high-rise buildings. Telephone and telecom station constantly maintain radio contact. When a subscriber moves from one locality to another, the device switches from one station to another.

There may be several transceivers on the territory of the state, forming a network. The service areas of such stations may overlap. Thanks to roaming, you can receive calls outside the activity radius of your home network through another partner operator.

List of major telecom operators:

  • China Mobile (China);
  • Verizon Wireless (USA);
  • MTS (Russia);
  • Megafon (Russia).

Any device within the coverage area of a telecom base station installed by a particular telecom operator operates on the basis of a SIM card. A smartphone is a type of cell phone. Such a gadget is supplemented by an operating system (OS), i.e. the capabilities of a personal computer. In the area of telecom station activity, thanks to the SIM-card inserted into the device, both smartphones and push-button mobiles (without OS) can work.

Cell phone identification

A portable device that uses radio communication to make calls or exchange voice, text, or video messages is called a cell phone. The set of functions, the main features of this kind of devices depend on the assembly, accessories, technical characteristics. Primitive devices allow you only to make calls, some – in addition, to exchange SMS-notifications. Modern gadgets have the capabilities of personal computers.

Mobile communications are carried out through the use of terrestrial and satellite systems. Information transmission is based on a radio signal and a transceiver. The cellular network with its telecom operators and base stations is only a separate type of terrestrial type of mobile radio communication. Its activity is limited.

Mobile devices include radio, cellular, satellite, DECT, IP phones, and others. This is a generic term for all types of devices that use radio communications to transmit information. However, subscribers are used to calling a mobile the simplest portable portable push-button gadget. Such a means of communication only supports calls and SMS messages.

A cell phone, unlike a smartphone, has no operating system. But such a means of communication also works on a SIM card within the telecom network coverage area. Where telecom operators are not active, radio communication is lost, both on smartphones and push-button mobiles.

But outside the telecom network coverage area, another type of portable portable electrical device can be used – the satellite device. In such devices, information is transmitted thanks to a communication satellite orbiting the Earth.
