Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed for several months. Multiplayer will be a separate game

Today brings us news from the CD Projekt RED camp, but unfortunately, this time it won’t make fans of the most anticipated game of the year happy, because as we’ve just learned, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t come out on the previously planned date.

Many gamers have long paid for a pre-order and were eagerly anticipating April 16, as that’s when Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to hit our hands. Unfortunately, it turned out that we have to curb our enthusiasm a bit, because it turns out that the game will join the growing group of this year’s productions, which will be delayed. First we learned that such a fate will befall the remake of Final Fantasy VII, which instead of March will hit the market in April, and Marvel’s Avengers moved from May to September, and now our native title joins them.

CD Projekt RED announced that it has decided to postpone the game’s release until September 17, because although the game is supposedly ready, the team needs time for testing, debugging and final touches: – The game is complete and playable from start to finish, but we still have a lot of work to do. Night City is huge, diverse, and adventurous; given its scale and complexity, we felt we needed more time to finish testing, debug, and give the game a final polish. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be the culmination of our work on the current console generation.

Interestingly, however, this isn’t the end of the news from RED’s camp, because by the way we learned a bit about the game’s multiplayer mode. It turns out that this one will be released as a separate AAA game and it’s what the developer had in mind when mentioning another big title he’s working on – so if you were hoping for another Witcher, then unfortunately nothing of the sort. In short, CD Projekt RED is following in Rockstar’s footsteps and Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer will be a separate creation in the style of GTA Online or Red Dead Redemption, which in addition will debut well after the single game’s release.

– The multiplayer version of Cyberpunk 2077 is another AAA game we’re planning. Taking into account that the game’s premiere will take place in September, it seems that releasing the multiplayer mode in 2021 is unlikely,” says Michał Nowakowski from the board of CD Projekt, adding at the same time that they are not afraid of releasing their hit in the hottest gaming period: – In our industry there is always something going on, regardless of the time of year, we can’t say that any month is easier. We don’t think that the September release is more dangerous than the game’s debut in April.
