Elon Musk: “We built a brain-computer interface 10 times better than others”

During an interview on Joe Rogan’s show, the Tesla and SpaceX chief revealed that his dream team at NeuraLink has developed an interface that is 10 times better than the most advanced in the world today.

Elon Musk:

The device, which can connect the human brain to computers and the global network, is expected to provide incomparably better and faster communications than those presented by the world’s biggest companies to date. Musk also revealed that in the next few months we will learn more details about this invention or even see one of the latest prototypes.

Earlier this year we heard that NeuraLink joined the competition organized by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to build a brain-computer interface. At the time, the company had a budget of approx. The $27 million it raised thanks to twelve unknown investors, but it wants to raise an additional $65 million from DARPA.

The lab for testing interface technology on animals was established in San Francisco’s famed Mission district. NeuraLink recently received permission to conduct tests on rodents. Musk has so far not spoken on these revelations. He is probably afraid of animal rights activists, who will surely cause an international scandal around him.

No matter how the matter turns out, cyborgization of society is only a matter of time, because such technologies are strongly pushed by the military. DARPA wants to significantly accelerate work on new implants. They are supposed to be as much as 10 times faster than those currently in use. There is talk here about registering work of as many as one million neurons. This will enable even more precise communication between the brain and the computer and better use of its potential.

The agency thinks here mainly about the control of exoskeletons, robots, aircraft or vehicles, but this technology will also find applications for ordinary people. Thanks to such a blessing, people will have access to enormous resources of the treasury of knowledge which is undoubtedly the global network. It will also turn out to be salutary for people struggling with e.g. Parkinson’s disease.

We will have super-fast communication with the whole world, because at the moment people contact each other sending about 10 bits of information per second. By comparison, computers can communicate at a rate of a trillion bits per second. Cyborgs will also be able to have powerful and ever-expanding cloud computing, which is a network of thousands of computers located in server rooms around the world.

Can you imagine possessing the computing capabilities of all the fastest supercomputers today? That’s all yet to come, but it’s nice to know that visions of the future from sci-fi movies are slowly becoming reality.
