Five WhatsApp features you may not know

WhatsApp may seem like a simple instant messenger for text, voice, and video calls. The app’s interface is indeed clear and easy to use. That doesn’t change the fact that WhatsApp is actually steeped in additional features that users may not be aware of. Here are some of them.

Show where you are!

Have you dated a friend in a city you both don’t know? No need to text or call now to explain your location. WhatsApp allows you to share your location. With this option, you can find the other person very quickly. Moreover, you can broadcast your location in real time. This can come in handy during night walks to increase your safety. Just start broadcasting your location to another person and they will be able to monitor your location at all times.

Emoticons aren’t enough?

Emoticons are the standard when it comes to expressing emotions through text in instant messaging. Many apps have already gone a step further and allow you to add gif format and stickers. WhatsApp gives you the ability to send self-created and personalized Stickers. Unfortunately, the app only allows you to upload them. To create your own stickers, you need to download an additional app and then add Stickers to WhatsApp.

Protect your privacy

WhatsApp takes care of the privacy of its users through end-to-end encryption. This means that even the app administrators cannot read customers’ conversations. From this, it follows that the threat of outsiders reading your conversations lies solely with the consumer. Just by inadvertently leaving the smartphone unlocked and going out for a moment, someone could get into private conversations. WhatsApp allows you to eliminate this eventuality as well. This is due to the biometric security of the app, which will request fingerprint verification every time it is launched. Users of iOS devices can block access to the app with Face ID or Touch ID.

Who’s your favorite person?

WhatsApp lets you see who you exchange the most messages with. This is not always authoritative, due to the fact that the ranking is based on how much a conversation weighs. This means that we can write hundreds of messages a day with someone and they will still be lower than the person we send two larger video files to. Nevertheless, it does give you some insight into who you are interacting with the most. This feature allows you to instantly see all the photos and videos that you have sent in a conversation. You can also delete all or selected photos and videos. This is a good way to free up space on your smartphone when you start running out of free memory.

How long have you been ignored?

Probably everyone knows a person who writes back several hours or even days after reading a message. Therefore, a useful feature of WhatsApp is to check the exact time when such a delinquent read the message. However, there are many ways to get around this. The recipient can completely turn off showing that the message has been read by him. Then he himself will not be able to see if someone has received content from him. Another way is to read the message when it pops up in notifications – this does not activate the confirmation. iPhone users can go a step further and instruct Siri to read the message.

Many people are not even aware of WhatsApp’s additional features. This is understandable, as not everyone has the time or inclination to read the blog and catch the news. The mentioned features are not all the tools that the application has. WhatsApp is literally loaded with them, and each one more or less enhances the functionality of the messenger. Let us know in the comments what your favorite features of the app are.
