A SIM card is issued by your provider when you sign up for a number or move to another network. You insert it into your phone to make and receive calls. By default the SIM card is protected by a PIN, so you may be asked how to delete the PIN from your SIM card.
This is not particularly difficult if you know where to look for such a setting. You don’t need to download any special tools or apps for this, and you just need to dig into your phone’s Settings. We will explain everything later in this article.
How do I delete the PIN from my SIM card?
PIN is a four-digit security number assigned to your SIM card, which you have to enter e.g. after inserting the card into a new device or after starting the phone similarly. The original PIN is on the SIM card packaging provided by your carrier, but then you can change it to another one or remove it altogether.
The answer to the question of how to remove the PIN from the SIM card is quite simple. It’s important to point out, though, that the exact names of the various tabs and settings depend on what model of phone you have – so if something doesn’t match up for you, just look for something that sounds similar in your phone. Just follow the steps below:
- Insert your SIM card into your phone and enter your current PIN (if you already have a PIN card in your phone, you don’t need to remove and reinsert it, of course).
- Go to your phone’s Settings and then to the “Passwords and Security” tab.
- Tap on “Privacy.”
- Tap on the name of your carrier.
- Move the slider next to “Lock SIM card” and enter the current PIN to deactivate the card protection.
In case you have trouble finding these options, you can always turn on your phone’s Settings and type in the SIM settings search engine, for example, and then look for the card lock option in the list of results.
Be warned that the password on the phone is not enough to protect you from fraudsters, because the SIM card can be moved. In case the phone is stolen, the fraudster will not be able to simply remove the SIM card from one phone, put it in your phone and be able to impersonate another person without knowing the PIN. By removing it, you put yourself at risk.
Deleting the PIN from your SIM card – summary
Having read the above information you should now know how to remove the PIN from your SIM card. However, we advise you to think carefully about this because the PIN exists to protect you. If it bothers you a lot, it is better to set an easy PIN that you will not forget than no PIN at all.
