Video editors have a variety of tasks to take care of when editing videos. You’ll be wondering how to overlay video in Movavi. Thanks to this feature, you can save the main video sequence without pasting and add active scenes, logos, and more to your video. The Movavi Video Editor stands out from similar products due to its clear and simple interface. That’s why adding a new video to your video is no problem.

How to work in Movavi

Movavi is a video editor designed for both beginners and experienced editors.

The program stands out for its wide functionality. Movavi is used to:

  • Creating slideshows from photos;
  • cuts video into separate clips;
  • Merge several video clips and photos into a single clip;
  • Applying effects on video;
  • processing audio tracks, and more.

Movavi has become a major video editor that lets you create custom videos that are comparable in quality to the work of professional directors.

The features of the program include a convenient and clear interface. Because of this, studying the peculiarities of working with the editor does not take much time.

Video slicing

The main purpose of Movavi is to allow you to edit your videos. Thanks to the simple interface, this process does not require users to have specific education or certain skills. Video slicing in Movavi takes just a few steps:

  • After launching the program, you need to open the file with the recording to be sliced (trimmed).

  • Open the file you want to cut (trim).
  • Highlight the time frame of the video you wish to cut.
  • Click “Trim”.
  • Select the cut segment, right-click and click “Delete” in the drop-down menu.

When the procedure is complete, the program will automatically “glue” the remaining parts together. If necessary, you can add transitions from one part of the clip to another using the tools in the “Transition Wizard” section.

Working with sound

For easy use, Movavi comes with instructions in Russian. Here you can learn how to add additional sounds to video. To do this, you will need to:

  • Right-click on the video.
  • Select “Detach Audio” to isolate the audio track from the video.

  • Cut the audio track into required fragments. The procedure follows the same algorithm as for the video.

  • Distribute sound to the video sequence in the desired order.

It is also possible to associate the video sequence with the sound track. To do this, the latter must be loaded into the editor and placed on the editing “table”. Then you only need to click on “Convert Video”. The program will automatically “link” the video and the audio track.

If you want to record a voice (for example, a comment to a video clip), click on the icon with a microphone. The following steps are based on the described algorithm.

Including titles in the video is necessary for:

  • descriptions of separate frames;
  • descriptions of what is occurring on the video with inclusion of the voiceover;
  • other purposes.

To include captions you need to:

  1. Select the corresponding fragment of the video sequence.
  2. Open the “Titles” section and transfer the selected fragment here.
  3. Insert a caption into the video and type the text.

When inserting captions, it is recommended to pay attention to how the text is displayed on the picture. If necessary, change the format (change the color, size, etc.).

There are lots of effects in Movavi Video Editor that can help you add more variety to your video. To access these tools, go to “Other Tools”. Here you can find:

  • chromakey function;
  • video slowdown;
  • video correction, and so on.

The set of Movavi’s built-in functions can be supplemented with plug-ins that need to be downloaded separately from the official website of the program’s developers.

Screen Capture

To record video from the computer screen, you’ll need the Movavi Screen Recorder, the instructions for which can also be found in the editor. After that, an additional panel will appear.

Then you need to click on “Start Recording”. You will be prompted to enter the capture area, which is the part of the screen from which you want to record. You may also turn on the microphone and webcam. In both cases audio and video will be recorded over the main clip.

Slideshow can be created in a few clicks with Movavi. All you need to do is:

  • Upload photos to the editor.

  • Choose a suitable template from the list of available templates.

  • Insert a melody (built-in or upload your own).

  • Escort a video file.

The program will automatically compile a video sequence with photos that can be viewed both on your computer and on other devices.

The list of filters supported by Movavi is given in the section of the same name. This tool lets you apply effects, change the appearance of a picture, insert your logo in the video, and make other changes.

To insert a filter, you need to select the appropriate one and drag the icon directly to the timeline. You can use this tool with videos (or several clips at once) as well as with individual photos (images).

The zoom effect built into Movavi lets you zoom in and out of video clips as well as zoom individual fragments in and out. To do this, you need to:

  • Click the “More” button on the left side of the screen.
  • Select “Pan and Zoom”.
  • Select the area of the screen to which the effect will be applied.

You can then change the scaling pattern by moving the left and right arrows. Movavi lets you apply the effect to any number of frames.

When you’re done editing, you need to export the video sequence. The program will automatically save the changes you made. That is, individual fragments in the final video will be enlarged or stretched depending on the preset settings.

Other features

Movavi lets you

  • digitize video from VHS tapes;
  • Record sounds from a synthesizer, webcam, and other external devices;
  • create text animations;
  • edit photos (images);
  • optimize video for mobile devices.

In particular, Movavi offers the following photo editing features:

  • removing objects;
  • red-eye editing;
  • retouching;
  • removal of defects and dates;
  • changing the background, hair color, eyes, and so on;
  • inscription;
  • improving the clarity;
  • superimposing effects, and more.

The video editor also allows you to insert video into another video, thus creating a complex series of fragments.

How to overlay video on video

Movavi supports several options for such overlaying. To do this, you need to:

  • Add to the editing “table” all the fragments that will be included in the future video sequence.
  • Insert one video clip onto the timeline (or the editing ruler at the bottom).
  • Move the second video by placing it on top of the first one.

After that, you need to select the overlay format:

  • picture-in-picture;
  • overlapping;
  • left, right, top or bottom separation.

To do this, double-click on the top video.

If you want to add a small fragment for your future clip that won’t overlap the main screen, select the edge blur effect located in the Filters section. After that the new track will be displayed in the center. The picture from the main video will be blurred for a while. This is useful for creating videos that demonstrate the capabilities of mobile gadgets or apps.

Picture-in-picture mode is used to simultaneously display 2 clips on the screen. And the second clip (not the main one) can be moved across the screen, stretched, flipped, and so on. This effect is used, in particular, when creating videos showing how to repair mobile or other equipment.

When the split effect is connected, a vertical or horizontal bar appears on the screen, with 2 videos on each side.

Movavi also supports the chromakey function. Thanks to this option, when editing, you can remove the homogeneous background by superimposing a picture or a video sequence over it.

To create such an effect you need to:

  1. Add a video recorded with a homogeneous background to the “Library”.
  2. Transfer the video clip to the ruler and select Picture-in-Picture mode.
  3. Go to “Tools” and select “Modify Video – Chromakey”.
  4. Choose a background and save your changes.

Movavi will automatically adjust the master clip to reflect your changes.

Working with PDF files

A separate Movavi tool for editing PDF files lets you

  • update graphics;
  • make changes to the document;
  • delete pages;
  • add tables.

You can also use this tool to combine information saved in other formats into a PDF file. That is, Movavi offers a wide range of functions comparable to a full-fledged editor. To start working with this tool, you need to upload a file and open the “Edit” section. If necessary, you can convert the resulting document into other formats, including images.

If the features described above are included in Movavi’s standard package, the PDF editing tool is sold separately.
