How to remove the Google search bar on Android: ways to disable and remove from the home screen

The desktop of a smartphone based on the Android operating system consists of many elements. As a rule, here are the icons of applications and widgets that the user has installed. But along with these, the home screen displays a Google search bar, which allows you to find the necessary information on the Internet. If it bothers you, you need to figure out how to remove the Google search bar on your Android phone with one of the methods presented in the material.

Removing Google search by moving

Google Search is an ordinary widget that can be removed from the screen with one motion just like other widgets. You will need:

  • Hold your finger on the search bar to highlight it.

  • Hover it over the trash can icon.

  • Click the “Delete” button.

After that, the bar will disappear, and you can use the free space to place program icons and other widgets there. If you want, you can always return Google Search by holding your finger on a free area of the screen and selecting the search item via the widget bar.

Disabling the Google app

Another way to get rid of an unnecessary interface element is to disable the program, which is responsible for displaying Google Search. To disable the search page, follow the instructions:

  • Open the device settings.

  • Go to the “Applications” section.

  • Select Google Search.
  • Press the “Stop” button and confirm the operation.

After confirmation, the item will immediately disappear from the Home screen. And the return will be the same as in the case of removal through moving Google Search, that is, using the widget bar.

How to remove Google completely

You probably know that any program installed on your smartphone can be uninstalled by pressing the appropriate button in the “Applications” section of the device settings. However, there is no such option on the Google Search page. The only thing a user can do is to delete updates. In some cases, this leads to the disappearance of the search bar, but this action still does not solve the problem.

If you want to completely remove the program that is responsible for the search operation, take a few steps:

  • Install the Kingo Root application.

  • Run the program and confirm receipt of root rights.
  • Install and then open the Root U app.
  • Go to the tab that shows the system programs.
  • Select “Google Search” and click the “Uninstall” button.

When performing the uninstall in the way mentioned above, take note of the peculiarities concerning obtaining root rights. Root access allows you to remove system programs, but at the same time has a number of disadvantages. Firstly, after rooting the smartphone is removed from the warranty. Secondly, it is impossible to perform transactions on a rooted device, including bank transfers.

If you do not want to face a similar problem, then either do not open root access, or revoke the root rights in a timely manner after performing all the necessary actions.

Installing a third-party launcher

Changing the display of the search bar on the home screen can be done in a more interesting way. Specifically, it is suggested to install a third-party launcher without Google Search.

Help. The launcher is the application responsible for displaying items on the desktop.

If this option appeals to you, then follow the algorithm:

  • Find a suitable launcher and install it through the Google Play Store.

  • Launch the Launcher program and enter the initial display settings.
  • Open the phone settings.

  • Go to “Desktop” and then to “Default Desktop”.
  • Check the box next to the program with an alternative launcher.

Now you will see a completely different desktop design. However, it is possible that the selected launcher also uses the Google search bar. Therefore, this option is not universal, although you will still be able to remove the unnecessary item by moving.

If you removed the search bar, but want to put it back in place, you can do two things. The first one has already been partially addressed earlier and concerns situations where Google Search was removed by moving or disabling the app. In such a case, we recommend that you do the following:

  • Hold your finger on the free area of the home screen.
  • Open the “Widgets” tab.
  • Select “Google Search” and install the widget in any free area of the desktop.

Another case is when the program is completely uninstalled using root rights. In such a situation, you need to reinstall the program:

  1. Launch Play Market.
  2. Find “Google Search.”
  3. Click the “Install” button on the app page.

If everything is done correctly, the search bar will appear in the widget section. You can also install the application responsible for the search, not through Play Market, but with a separate APK file. It should be searched on the Internet on specialized sites.
