mObywatel – used by over 3.1 million Poles

More than 3 million Poles already use our mObywatel application, a digital document wallet. The EU COVID certificate will soon be added to it.

– Making life easier for Poles is the main goal of our application. We are constantly developing it to meet the expectations of users – says Minister Adam Andruszkiewicz, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. – Not only Poles appreciate our actions. mCitizen is a pioneering solution. Many European countries set us as an example,” he adds.

3 152 412 Poles have installed mObywatel in their phones. This number is growing every day. This is not only a proof of trust, but above all – and most importantly for us – an appreciation of the usefulness of the application.

mObywatel – basic information

mObywatel is a digital document wallet – with it you can have quick access to your most important documents, including data and photo from your ID card, in just a few clicks. Our application is free, voluntary and secure, and comes in handy in many life situations. It has been prepared by the NASK team.

What can you find in it? First of all, data that allow you to confirm your identity. Until recently this part of the application was called mTożożość. Now, to make it simpler we called it simply mCitizen. Together with the name change we also extended this service. Thanks to that our application is even more useful.

What data can be found in mObywatel? Your name(s), surname, PESEL number, date of birth, ID card number, information about which authority issued the document, expiration date of the ID card, gender information, father’s name, mother’s name, mother’s maiden name, place of birth, information about citizenship and place of residence and a photo from the ID card. In one word, it is the data from the ID and even more.

Where does the data in mCitizen come from? From state registers – PESEL Register and Register of Personal Identity Cards. Only you have access to this data in our application. Their security is guaranteed by the trusted profile needed to launch the application. If you don’t have a trusted profile yet.

Data stored in your phone are encrypted and signed with a certificate. The certificate also confirms the authenticity of the data. You get it when you activate the application – it is assigned only to you and your phone.

Your data are safe even if you lose your phone – they are protected not only by an encrypted record, but also by a phone lock and a password that you choose when activating the application.

Where and in what situations can you use mCitizen?

  • In hotels – while checking in,
  • In trains – during the ticket control,
  • In sports equipment rental shops,
  • At the post office, when you want to collect a registered letter or a parcel,
  • but also, for example, during elections, when signing up for loyalty cards, in stores or at clinics.

IMPORTANT! The right to use mCitizen and to present documents and data by means of it is granted by the act on informatization of the activity of entities performing public tasks.

mCitizen does not replace presenting an ID or passport at airports, at a notary, in banks or during SIM card registration. You will also not use mCitizen if your identity card is not valid.

Here are other documents you can have in your digital wallet (and that’s not all, anyway):
