We know who will play Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series from Netflix

It’s already certain, Henry Cavill, known for his role of Superman in the recent DC universe movies, will play the main role of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series being prepared by Netflix.

We finally have concrete news about the serialized Witcher that Netflix is working on. It turns out that when Henry Cavill recently expressed his desire to play Geralt of Rivia (and insisted that he’s a huge fan of the saga), it wasn’t just wishful thinking, but something was afoot. It has just been confirmed that the actor, who recently appeared in such films as Mission Impossible – Fallout and Justice League, will play the main role in the production based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books.

It is worth recalling that the showrunner and executive producer of the series is Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel: Daredevil, Marvel: The Defenders, Umbrella Academy), and it was also revealed that Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones) will serve as director and executive producer (he will be responsible for four episodes, including the first). Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel: Luke Cage, Utopia, Marvel: Daredevil, Fear The Walking Dead) will direct 2 episodes and the same number of episodes will go to Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart, Lost). The entire season, as it’s not hard to count, will thus consist of 8 episodes.

The creators announced the series as a production based on a best-selling series of novels which is to be a story about destiny and family. The plot outline is as follows:

Geralt of Rivia, a mutant monster hunter, is looking for his place in the world where people often turn out to be worse than the scariest monsters. When destiny throws them at a powerful sorceress and a young princess hiding a dangerous secret, the trio must learn to navigate a dangerous world together.

Henry Cavill is known for his dual role as Clark Kent/Superman in Man of Steel, the box office biggest of the Superman film series. He has also starred in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and the Golden Globe nominated series Tudor Dynasty. His film debut was a role in The Count of Monte Christo. He will soon appear in Nomis alongside Ben Kingsley and Stanley Tucci. Henry along with his brother, Charlie Cavill and Ben Blankenship founded Promethean Production.

However, we still do not know when the premiere of the series is planned and we are looking forward to the first trailer, which will tell us a little more about the style and atmosphere of the production. Let’s hope that the creators manage to preserve the Slavic spirit of Sapkowski’s novel and do not want to turn The Witcher into typical pulp for less demanding viewers. We keep our fingers crossed for the success of the project because The Witcher deserves a good screen adaptation (we have been trying to forget about the production with Michał Żebrowski until now).
